| I was born and raised in a small town called Columbia, Kentucky. After 21 years of living there, I decided to branch out a bit, and attended Eastern Kentucky University (which, coincidentally, is two hours away from my home town) for two years. My husband and I were married in the Summer of 2005, and afterwards I found myself in Anchorage, Alaska (which is much further from my home town than I anticipated). I am currently finishing my degree at the University of Alaska Anchorage and hope to go on to get a Masters of Fine Arts Degree some time in the near future. My focus here at UAA is an emphasis in painting and a minor emphasis in printmaking. From an early age, I always knew I wanted to do something in the arts. From elementary school all the way up through high school and college, I have pursued art as both a passion and a career. Eventually, after I have completed graduate school, I plan to keep a body of work going, and likely become an art educator. After all, you learn the most from someone who is passionate about what they do. My work is largely based on the figure. The female figure is used more often than the male figure, both as a tribute to my gender and to illustrate feminist concepts that are important to me. Symbolism plays a large role in my work, as I am of the opinion that everyone should be able to see what they see in a work of art, not necessarily what I see. My two strong points are painting and drawing, while I have a love/hate relationship with printmaking. |
